"The mural project is what finalized his decision on choosing Bangor to film the movie"
Bangor is Blooming with Beautiful Murals by Candy Martin
You may have noticed the beautiful murals painted on several buildings in downtown Bangor. Thanks to some incredibly talented artists, local real estate brokers, The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce, local residents volunteering their time, local historian Donald Jones, as well as many other residents who have generously given monetary donations to beautify and rehabilitate some of the downtown buildings to bring them back to life.
A few months ago The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce contacted Slate Belt real estate brokers for suggestions on improving the downtown area as some of the buildings and store fronts were in dire need of sprucing up. The buildings which feature beautiful architecture were in need of some TLC. Laura McClain, Executive Director, Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce, reached out to local real estate broker Faith Sarisky, Realtor/Broker of Realty Solutions of PA, in Upper Mt Bethel Township. Faith immediately knew she wanted to get involved and started contacting fellow real estate brokers, who also agreed to be on board sponsoring the murals. Faith, who now spearheads the project began contacting the building's owners to ask permission to paint the building's facade. The first building painted is located at 24 N. Main
Street (the former Daniel's Shoe Store) sponsored by Realty Solutions of PA. Artist, Shannon Almanzar, added her artistic talent painting beautiful flowers on the building. Faith posted a sign on the building with her business name and thought it would be a great opportunity for other businesses to sponsor murals to not only gain recognition for their businesses, but it would also help in giving the buildings a welcoming appearance. "#BeautifyBangor just took off. Businesses started calling to inquire about sponsorship, artists called who were interested in painting and residents wanted to volunteer their time. It's been incredible to say the least considering the uncertainty we are all facing today." said Faith.
To date eleven murals have been painted with more in the works. Murals have been painted by local artists Shannon Almanzar, David Sutherland, Sarah Lanier, Terri Palmer, Junie Miller and Lanie Plimpton. Not Just Records located at 1 Broadway received a solid coat of paint with some records attached to the wall. Other designs include flowers, birds and other artistic scenes. Young artists are also involved in #BeautifyBangor. Mothers of local young aspiring artists have contacted Faith via social media stating that their children want to get involved and showcase their love of art. So the "Aspiring Artists Wall" came to life, located on a garage door behind Greenleaf Soft Tissue Therapy.
Faith welcomes any and all volunteers as well as monetary donations. Any artists interested in painting can reach out to Faith. She is hopeful that Bangor will become an art destination town. A place where people will come to see the beautiful artwork and architecture
of the buildings, stroll downtown Bangor, dine at local restaurants, shop local businesses, visit local wineries and breweries and see what Bangor and the Slate Belt's rich history has to offer.
